My journey

Embracing change: my move from Hong Kong to Singapore

So, I'm originally from Hong Kong. In 2020, I decided it was time for a change and made the move to Singapore. It's been an absolutely amazing journey, filled with growth and eye-opening experiences. And Singapore? It's more than just its efficiency and vibrant culture. What's truly captivated me is the incredible food here (seriously, it's unbelievable) and the warmth of the people. It feels like this place just gives you a warm welcome.

Early career

Designing my path, with a twist and a lot of coffee

Yes, I don't have a formal degree in design.
Shocking, right? But hey, where there's a will, there's a way, and my way was fueled by sheer grit and countless nights hitting the books hard. After uni, I had my sights set on snagging a Higher Diploma of Media Art at the Hong Kong Art Centre. But, you know how life loves to throw curveballs? Well, it threw a big one at me with some financial challenges, and I had to make the tough call to drop out before finishing.

But did I let that stop me? No way, I got to work, putting everything I had into building an online portfolio. And would you believe it? That little portfolio of mine worked its magic and landed me my very first job at a digital agency as an interaction designer. And trust me, that was only the beginning of this wild ride.

Design career

Over a decade of design: My journey from crafting to coaching

Time sure does fly; it's been more than a decade already! I've had the incredible opportunity to work alongside some amazing teams at places like AlipayHK, Lalamove, NTUC FairPrice, and now Spenmo. My journey has taken me from being totally immersed in hands-on product design to discovering a passion for mentoring and leading teams. And let's not forget, I've always stayed true to my love for digging into the nitty-gritty of design work.

Learning design on my own, with very few resources, brought its challenges. However, conquering these obstacles ignited a deep passion in me to simplify the journey for others. I aim to share the valuable lessons I've learned, offering guidance and support to the next generation of designers as they forge their paths. We're in this collective journey together, each of us playing a part in fostering growth and success within our community.

Why I do product design

Designing with heart: touching lives and making a difference

So, why do I love design? It's simple. I believe that thoughtful design can make the world a better place. My INFP personality means I'm all about creativity and exploring new ideas. One of my most eye-opening experiences was while working at Lalamove, where I got to meet the hardworking drivers face to face. Hearing their stories, like that of a driver who struggled daily to make ends meet, solidified my belief that good design isn't just about looksβ€”it's about making people life easier and more enjoyable for everyone. It's about those real, human moments that remind us why we do what we do.
